History
History- 14,000 years ago ice covered land for 2,000 years. When the ice melted, wind brought tiny seeds and fungi, and it started to develop and grow.
Global Locations and Climate
The temperature of the Temperate Forest is normally in between 30 and 35 degrees Celsius. The a nual rainfall can range from 750 to 1500 mm anually. A leading characteristic in the forest is the way it changes throughout the four seasons. The leaves change color from green in fall, die and faall from the tree in winter, and grow back in spring. The animals have to learn how to adapt to the weather changes.
Levels of the Forest
The forest is split into five levels for its vegetation.
1st Layer- Tree Stratum- The tallest layer, From 60-100 feet tall, Made of large trees
2nd Layer- Small Tree or Sapling- Made from short and small trees
3rd Layer- Shrub- Made from plants like Huckleberries and Azaleas
4th Layer- Herb- Short and small plants
5th Layer- Ground- Made from club mosses and normal mosses
The vegetation of the forest is normally broad leafed trees including beeches, maples, oaks, shrubs, pennial herbs, and mosses. The animal life includes ants, bald eagle, bears (black and brown) deer, earthworm, fox, frog, porcupine, red fox, red-tailed fox, turkey and arachnoid's. They are located in Eastern US, Canada, Japan, and china.
Issues
Although we feel like we have these forests all around us, these forests are very quickly being depleted. 90% of the worlds forests are destroyed, and that number just keeps growing. Also with the acid rain, it is slowing destroying the forests.
