Rainforest
There are two different types of rainforests around the world; the tropical rainforest and the temperate rainforest.
Rainforests provide much of the world's oxygen supply
Global Locations and Climate
Rainforests are located in a band around the equator, between the Tropic of Cancer (23.5° N) and the Tropic of Capricorn (23.5° S)
They exist in areas where it is warm and rains all year. The temperature usually ranges between 20° to 25° C year round, with a 2,000 to 10,000 millimeter average of rainfall per year.
The tropical rainforests are found closer to the equator, while the temperate rainforests are found in cooler areas farther north or south of the equator.
Dominant Plant and Animal Species
The dominant plant species in the rainforest are vines, ferns, orchids, and palm trees. The majority of the plants in the understory are common house plants. Most of the plants are evergreen, and there is a very wide variety of tall trees.
Environmental Issues
-Cutting down the trees for logging and furniture is gradually decreasing the area space of rainforests, which are the main producers of oxygen in the world.
-Paper industries are chopping down trees in the rainforest, destroying the homes of millions of organisms as they do so.
